Our Companion Parishes:
Saint Saviour Pimlico

Saint Saviour Pimlico, LondonIn 2009 we entered into a companion relationship with the Church of Saint Saviour, Pimlico, London. This connexion came about through the initiative of the Bishops of New York and London to twin parishes in Manhattan and Central London.

Saint Saviour stands at the corner of Cale Street and St George’s Square in the heart of Pimlico, not far from the Tate Gallery. It is a neighbourhood not unlike the Upper West Side, with a mix of residents from all walks of life. The parish was founded around the same time as Saint Ignatius and has for many years considered itself a part of the the liberal catholic tradition within the Church of England. Although their liturgies are not as complex as those at Saint Ignatius, Saint Saviour is faithful to the great traditions of the Church and Mass is always celebrated enveloped in a cloud of smoke!

In June 2009 the then vicar, the Rev’d Matthew Woodward visited Saint Ignatius and later that month Father Blume made the first of his annual pilgrimages to Saint Saviour. Indeed, Father Blume has visited Saint Saviour and celebrated the liturgy with them each year since then, even during the interim year after Father Woodward’s departure and before the arrival of the current vicar, the Rev’d Matthew Catterick.

We have already welcomed a number of visitors from Saint Saviour and we hope to welcome Father Catterick and his family sometime soon. In the meanwhile we hope that the next time you are in London, you will travel down to Saint Saviour and visit this wonderful community whom we hold daily in prayer and with whom we are connected through personal and institutional relationships.
